In his speech, the Ambassador congratulated the congregation on their
continued success and contribution to the Filipino community in
Switzerland. He encouraged their active engagement in community
activities particularly the forthcoming celebration of the 114th
anniversary of Philippine independence, which will be coordinated by
the Filipino Bern Network, and in Embassy activities such as the
Overseas Absentee Voting registration.
Speaking before the congregation, Ambassador Baja said, “Your
anniversary comes on the heels of the celebration of the 26th
anniversary of the EDSA Revolution, the day when Filipinos from all
walks of life came together to help restore democracy in the country. I
call on you as a migrant community to do your share in helping maintain
the vibrancy of democracy in our country by participating in the
overseas absentee voting.
“The passage of the Overseas Absentee Voting Act in 2003 was a victory
for overseas Filipinos, as this has given Filipinos across the globe
the opportunity to exercise their right of suffrage and participate in
the decision-making process in the country.
