Samahang Pilipina Berne holds financial literacy for Filipinos in Switzerland

The Samahang Pilipina (SP) in Berne, an association founded in 1985, to promote Filipino women’s rights and empower Filipino women in Berne, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy, organized a Financial Literacy Seminar at the Philippine Embassy on 15 September 2012.

SP invited Mr. Mariel Vincent Rapisura, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI), to be the resource person for the one-day seminar. SEDPI is a Philippine-based private organization that has been active in empowering overseas Filipino workers through financial literacy trainings to better manage their finances and at the same time, help the poor in the Philippines to be self-sufficient, by encouraging overseas Filipinos to invest in cooperatives and micro enterprises. SEDPI has, to date, trained close to 15,000 microfinance and social enterprise stakeholders from approximately 1,500 development organizations in 19 countries worldwide.

During the seminar, Mr. Rapisura gave a simple and practical lecture on financial education and engaged the attendees on some exercises to help them balance their financial and social goals to protect and sustain themselves when they retire.
The financial literacy seminar was the second one organized by the SP for 2012, the first one was held in May.

The seminar is in line with the efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Berne to help overseas Filipino workers maximize the gains from their income by teaching them financial literacy and offer alternative investments.
