Samahang Pilipina Berne holds financial literacy for Filipinos in Switzerland
The Samahang Pilipina
(SP) in Berne, an association founded in 1985, to promote Filipino
women’s rights and empower Filipino women in Berne, in cooperation with
the Philippine Embassy, organized a Financial Literacy Seminar at the
Philippine Embassy on 15 September 2012.
SP invited Mr. Mariel Vincent Rapisura, Chief Executive Officer and
Founder of Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI), to
be the resource person for the one-day seminar. SEDPI is a
Philippine-based private organization that has been active in
empowering overseas Filipino workers through financial literacy
trainings to better manage their finances and at the same time, help
the poor in the Philippines to be self-sufficient, by encouraging
overseas Filipinos to invest in cooperatives and micro enterprises.
SEDPI has, to date, trained close to 15,000 microfinance and social
enterprise stakeholders from approximately 1,500 development
organizations in 19 countries worldwide.
During the seminar, Mr. Rapisura gave a simple and practical lecture on
financial education and engaged the attendees on some exercises to help
them balance their financial and social goals to protect and sustain
themselves when they retire.
The financial literacy seminar was the second one organized by the SP for 2012, the first one was held in May.
