Ambassador Baja meets with Swiss Aid leader
in Cagayan de Oro and Swiss NGO Theresa Lädeli
Embassy in Berne reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that
Ambassador Leslie Baja met with Dr. Claudio Valsangiacomo, head of the
team of water sanitation experts that assisted in the rehabilitation of
Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in the afternoon of Tropical storm
Ambassador Baja conveyed the appreciation of the Philippine government
for the invaluable assistance made by the Swiss team in rehabilitating
the water systems in the two cities and in ensuring safe drinking water
for the disaster victims. For his part, Dr Valsangiacomo
expressed the view that the strong coordination made in the ground by
local authorities made relief and rehabilitation assistance
faster. He noted the resiliency of the residents in Cagayan de
Oro and Iligan in the face of the disasters they faced.
Earlier in the month, Ambassador Baja also met with Monica Baumann, the
head of the Swiss NGO Theresa Lädeli which is supporting health and
socio-economic programs in Davao and Bukidnon. In 2000, Theresa
Lädeli was given the Banaag Award by the Commission on Filipinos
Overseas for its work in the Philippines. In 2011, Theresa Lädeli
donated over Swiss Francs 111,000 to its projects in the Philippines.
