FilCom in Switzerland and Liechtenstein turn over CHF 10,210
for victims of typhoon Pablo
first ever Filipino community meeting with a Philippine President in
recent memory, Filipinos from Switzerland and Liechtenstein donated a
total amount of CHF 10,210 (approximately P450,000) to President
Benigno S. Aquino III during his visit to Davos and Zürich from 24 to
26 January. The amount does not include donations from individuals and
organizations that were directly given to various agencies and
foundations in the Philippines.
An initial amount of CHF 8,650 was
ceremonially handed over to the President by Philippine Ambassador
Leslie Baja during the Filipino community meeting with President Aquino
at the Renaissance Hotel in Zürich on 26 January 2013. More than 500
Filipinos from all parts of Switzerland and Liechtenstein filled the
hotel ballroom to listen to President Aquino. They gave a rousing
and warm welcome to the President which contrasted with the extremely
cold weather prevailing in Switzerland.
After the President gave an update on the
improvements in the Philippines in the economy and in the field of
transparency and good governance, the Filipinos present gamely posed
for souvenir pictures with President Aquino.
The Filipino communities in Switzerland and
Liechtenstein, numbering approximately 10,000, have been actively
engaged in various charity activities in the Philippines, with various
organizations engaged in different types of fund/raising activities
geared towards providing assistance to projects that benefit the poor
and the underprivileged families in the respective regions of origin.
They also work hand in hand with numerous Swiss-based and/or –initiated
civic organizations involved in various charity works in the
