Philippine Embassy Berne intensifies cooperation with Swiss religious and NGOs

The catholic community in Switzerland has been actively working in the
Philippines particularly with the vulnerable sectors of society. It has
also been continuously providing assistance to victims of calamities in
the Philippines. The Katholische Kirche Region Bern, for instance,
donated CHF 10,000 to the victims of typhoon Sendong in December 2011.
Bishop Gmür was in the Philippines in late 2011 as part of the
solidarity mission composed of various religious orders and people that
visited Quezon and Aurora provinces to support the local communities
who are in danger of being displaced by the establishment of the Aurora
Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (Apeco). During his visit,
he arranged to engage the local priests and the media in educating the
local populace about their human rights and on the impact of activities
in free trade zones on their lives.
