The Philippine Embassy in Berne and the Philippine Mission/Consulate General in Geneva have joined forces with the Internet-based Tambayan Pinoy Swiss (TPS) Channel to promote the ongoing registration for overseas voters among Filipino citizens living and working in Switzerland, including holders of dual citizenship.

In a recent interview by the TPS, Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Leslie J. Baja and Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN Cecilia B. Rebong informed the Filipino community in Switzerland of the ongoing registration, including who can register and how to register.

Ambassador Baja explained, “Ang overseas voting po ay para sa mga Pilipino na naninirahan sa abroad, 18 years old and above who are not disqualified by law. Puede pong magparehistro para sila ay makaboto sa national elections sa Pilipinas.”

Added Ambassador Rebong, “Para makarehistro,  kailangan pong magpakita ng proof ng Filipino citizenship yung magrerehistro. Passport ang best document na kailangan pong i-submit, or kung may equivalent na ibang dokumento na galing sa Pilipinas na magpapatunay na Filipino citizen po yung nagrerehistro

Filipinos overseas were accorded the right to vote in Philippine national elections under Republic Act 9189, as amended by Republic Act 10590, otherwise known as the Philippine Overseas Voting Act of 2013. Under the law, qualified overseas voters can vote for President, Vice President, Senators and Party-list Representatives.

Filipinos across Switzerland are encouraged to register either at the Philippine Consulate General in Geneva (for those residing in Geneva and Vaud) or at the Philippine Embassy in Berne (for the rest of the Filipinos in Switzerland) so they can vote in the 2016 and subsequent Philippine national elections. Registration, which started on 6th May 2014, will run up to 31st October 2015.
