Philippine Embassy in Berne
Visits Filipino Trainees at APM Technica
9
July 2010-Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland, Maria Theresa P.
Lazaro, recently visited APM Technica, a Swiss engineering company
based in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
The APM Technica AG is a
Swiss medium enterprise providing high tech adhesive and surface
technology based in Switzerland, with a factory at the Philippine
Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in Cabuyao, Laguna. In the past several
years, the company has been training Filipinos at their company in
Switzerland under the RP- Swiss Agreement of 2002 on the Exchange of
Professional and Technical Trainees. Under the Agreement, the trainees
complete around 12 to 18 months of training in Switzerland and return
to the Philippines to work in the company’s Laguna factory.
Ambassador
Lazaro and Consul Lillibeth Pono met with APM Technica’s Chairman, Mr.
Arthur Philipp and its CEO Mr. Stefan Mattle, to discuss among others,
the effectiveness of the mutually beneficial RP-Swiss Exchange of
Trainees Agreement. The discussions noted the need to maximize
the benefits of the Agreement, since the quota of 50 trainees to be
deployed annually by each country has not been reached.
The
Embassy also talked with the company’s Filipino trainees, and confirmed
the general observation that Filipino trainees in Switzerland are
satisfied with their working and living conditions, in addition to the
invaluable technological and engineering know-how received from the
training.
The visit is part of the Embassy’s
economic diplomacy particularly the observance of the
implementation of the provisions of the RP-Swiss Agreement of 2002 on
the Exchange of Professional and Technical Trainees.
